At the church Mädhanä Aläm in Gondär
In the 17th century Gondär became the first permanent national capital of Ethiopia. Gondär has been in the past and still is today the centre for (theology) studies of the Ethiopian church.
Two of the most important styles of painting, the early and the late style of Gondär, are called after this city.
