The Church-Schools of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia.

Different levels of school

Famous schools have specialized for a given subject and students from all over Ethiopia will come to this school to learn this special subject. The system of schools resembles a system of stairs. The curriculum, which is predominantly handed down orally to the students, is momorized. It consists of the following subjects:

A. Nebab Bet = House of Reading

B. Qeddase Bet = Schools for the tasks of Deacons and common priests for everyday life.

C. Higher Church Schools:

(d) Zema Bet = Church-song and sacramental dance

(b) Qene Bet = The language Ge'ez and church poetry

(c) Mats'haf Bet = Study of the bible, of the church fathers and the jurisdiction of the church

Within these three steps, which are comparable with our primary- and secondary-schools and universities various subjects are taught.
